
Baking Powder Biscuits

My mother used to make these biscuits every Sunday before church growing up. They go equally well smothered in homemade gravy, slathered with jelly, or topped with bacon egg and cheese. Best covered and served warm, but they also freeze and reheat well in a pinch.

Mix dry ingredients

Cut shortening into dry ingredients with pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs

Stir in milk until dough leaves side of bowl

Turn dough several times on lightly floured surface

For cut biscuits, roll or pat dough to 1/2 inch thick, cut with 2 1/2 inch round cutter, and place on greased cookie sheets about 1 inch apart

For drop biscuits, increase milk to 1 cup, and drop globules of about 2 Tbsp of dough about 1 inch apart on greased cookie sheet

Bake at 450° until golden brown about 10-12 minutes
