Delightfully messy and delicious.

There's a reason I say "your favorite cheese sauce" instead of specifying btw. I know there are 2 main cheeses people love on their philly. Provolone or straight up Cheez Whiz. And maybe I've just smartened up enough over the years to know better than to try telling people which they should use. Lmao. Btw, I used a slice of American and some homemade cheese sauce on my own. 😉

Ingredients

4 servings
  1. 4fresh made brats
  2. 1/2 cupwater
  3. 2 tbsbutter
  4. 1large green bell pepper - chopped
  5. 1medium yellow onion - chopped
  6. 4brat buns or hoagie rolls
  7. Sliced American cheese and/or your favorite cheese sauce

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. When hot add about 1 tbs oil and swirl to coat.

  2. 2

Add brats Sear to brown on both sides. Add 1/2 cup water. Cover. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until cooked through. Ours took about 15 minutes, but they were huge specialty brats from our local grocer.

  3. 3

While brats cook melt 2 tbs butter in a separate skillet over medium-high heat. Add pepper and onion and cook until tender and beginning to caramelize, about like what is shown here. Season to taste while cooking of course.

  4. 4

When brats are cooked turn off heat. Let rest 5 minutes. Assemble as shown in recipe photo. Side note, in the photo I sliced mine because the brats we bought were huge. You do not have to slice yours. Enjoy!

Cooking is a hobby and a passion of mine. I love cooking and trying new and different things. The best thing about cooking? I get to prepare delicious food for my family and friends that they (almost) always love! Lol.Many of my recipes are experiments in what I could make with what was available at the time. Many are simply my version of classic and/or popular dishes. A few are variations of recipes I have found elsewhere online but adjusted to our tastes. No matter what, though, each of my recipes is tried and tested before posting and I hope you find as much joy in preparing them as I do.
