Jack Skellington Pumpkin Pie

I love pumpkins and pies. To celebrate Halloween, I paired it with the classic character Jack from the movie 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'. I should make a Sally version too!

Steps
- 1
[Making the Pie Crust] Sift the flour and mix with sugar, salt, and baking powder. Add vegetable oil and rub with your hands until it becomes crumbly. Gradually add milk, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough can be formed into a ball. Shape into a ball and gently flatten.
- 2
Cover the dough with two sheets of plastic wrap and roll it out to a thickness of about 1/8 inch. The entire pie crust should be larger than the tart pan by about 2 inches. Remove the top plastic wrap, place the crust over the tart pan, and press it into the pan. Remove the bottom plastic wrap.
- 3
[Making Decorative Cookies] Use the remaining dough to make Jack's face! Roll out the dough and sketch Jack's face on paper. Use a knife to cut out the eyes, nostrils, and smile on the dough. Place on parchment paper. Use the remaining dough to make swirl cookies.
- 4
[Baking the Pie Crust and Cookies] Preheat the oven to 392°F (200°C). Cover the edges of the pie crust with aluminum foil and poke holes in the bottom with a fork. Bake for 20 minutes, remove the foil, and bake for another 10 minutes. Add the cookies after removing the foil and bake for 10 minutes. Let the pie crust (without removing from the pan) and cookies cool.
- 5
[Making the Pumpkin Filling] Steam the pumpkin until soft and mash it through a sieve. Mix sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon. Slightly heat the milk and mix with the egg. Combine all ingredients with the pumpkin puree and mix well.
- 6
[Baking the Pie] Preheat the oven to 356°F (180°C). Fill the pie with pumpkin filling and place the decorative cookies on top. Bake for 20 minutes. Let cool, remove from the pan, and enjoy your Jack Skellington Pumpkin Pie!

[Note 1] The pumpkin filling turned out quite dark. Using plain dough might look better than dough mixed with cocoa powder. I recommend using plain dough.
- 8
[Note 2] I used kabocha squash this time, but I also like using butternut squash. I often use these two types of squash for pies and pizzas.
