Ingredients

48 cookies
  1. 2 1/4 cupFlour
  2. 1 cupPacked Brown Sugar
  3. 3/4 cupShortening
  4. 1/4 cupMolases
  5. 1Egg
  6. 1 teaspoonBaking Soda
  7. 1 teaspoonGround Ginger
  8. 1 teaspoonGround Cinnamon
  9. 1/2 teaspoonGround Cloves
  10. 1/4 cupSugar

Steps

  1. 1

    In a large mixing bowl, combine about half the flour and all off the brown sugar, shortening, molasses, egg, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.

    Beat with an electric mixer on medium to high speed till thoroughly combine, scraping the sides of the bowl occasionally.

  3. 3

    Beat or stir in the remaining flour.

  4. 4

    Shape the dough into 1-inch balls. Roll the balls in sugar to coat.

  5. 5

    Place cookies 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 8-10 minutes or till edges are set and tops are crackled. Cool on a cookie sheet for 1 minute. Remove cookies and cool on wire rack.
