My chapati recipe is just the best! Taught by a darling aunt who makes the softest, as much as I don’t get to her level, but I’m almost!
Steps
- 1
Mix all ingredients except water continously till well mixed.
- 2
Now add water and mix, to get an abit sticky dough, this is my little tip in getting a soft kneadable dough.
- 3
Now knead till a soft dough forms.
- 4
Spread it and oil it a little as it rests for around 15 minutes.
- 5
Knead again and form 8 round shaped balls. Each ball will make 2 chapatis.
- 6
Lacking for its word, this step is called “tabaki”.. part of the softening stage of chapatis. Roll the ball, oil it as shown then cut it symmetrically to two equal sides. Now roll it and tuck it in as shown.
- 7
After being tucked, that’s how it looks like.
- 8
Chapatis ready for cooking.
- 9
On a flat surface, roll your chapatis each a at a time.
- 10
Now place on a heated pan, turn both sides, when both sides turn color and cook, oil one side and turn, then the other and turn again. Store in a hot pot and when all are ready, fold into two and fold again. Others hit chapatis also.
- 11
Ready! Serve with any meat or beans of your choice. Can even be plainly taken with tea. Enjoy!
