This method works with both dairy based condensed milk and the free-from coconut version
Steps

Preheat the oven to gas 8 / 210C / 425F

Pour the condensed milk into a 9 inch cake or pie tin
- 3
Cover the tin with foil and place in an over tray. Pour water into the oven tray so it comes halfway up the pie tin
- 4
Put in the oven for 75 minutes. Give the caramel a stir then return to the oven, checking every 15 minutes until it turns golden. This should take around 1 & 1/2 hours

Stir again then pour into a sterilized glass jar and let cool to use as a delicious ice cream topping or use immediately as pie filler
