Ingredients

  • 500 gmsSurmai
  • 1/4 pieceor little more of dry coconut slices
  • 2 tbspwhole coriander seeds
  • 2 tspcumin seeds
  • 4-5dry whole red chillies
  • 6-7 clovesgarlic
  • 1small onion chopped
  • 3-4green chillies (slit them)
  • 1 tbspoil
  • 2-3 cupswater
  • 2-3 tspcornflour optional
  • 2 tsplemon juice optional
  • 1 tspturmeric powder
  • 1 tspkashmiri red chilli powder
  • to tasteSalt

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash the fish.Apply little salt to it and keep aside for some time.Wash again before putting in the gravy. Dry roast coconut slices till it turns slightly brown.Keep aside.

    Grind together roasted coconut slices, garlic dry red chillies, coriander and cumin seeds to a paste.

    Heat oil in a pan put onion, green chillies and saute till onions are translucent.Put the grounded masala, turmeric powder,salt,fry for a minute or 2. Add water bring to a boil.

    Now add the fish pieces, cover and cook for 2 -3 minutes.Check if cooked or cover and cook till done.Add lemon juice if you prefer or skip.Serve hot with rice.
