Ingredients

4 servings
  1. 200 gramskunafa dough (about 7 ounces)
  2. 200 gramssweetened Akkawi cheese (about 7 ounces)
  3. 100 gramsmozzarella cheese (about 3.5 ounces)
  4. 150 gramsbutter (about 10 1/2 tablespoons)
  5. Orange food coloring
  6. 1/4 cupsimple syrup (about 60 ml)

Steps

    Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).

  2. 2

    Melt the butter and add the orange food coloring. Shred the kunafa dough and rub it with the melted butter and coloring.

  3. 3

    Grease an 7-inch (18 cm) round baking pan with butter, then press the kunafa dough evenly into the pan.

  4. 4

    Mix the mozzarella and sweetened Akkawi cheese, drain any excess water, and spread the cheese mixture over the kunafa dough in the pan.

    Note: Spread the cheese in the center, keeping it away from the edges.

  6. 6

    Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the edges of the kunafa are lightly golden.

  7. 7

    Invert the kunafa onto a serving plate and pour 1/4 cup (60 ml) of simple syrup over it, or adjust to taste.
