Hibiscus Fresca

#colourred
Hibiscus Fresca, is a refreshing sweetened hibiscus tea popular in Mexico and other parts of Central America. It is an infusion of hibiscus flowers, sweetened with raw sugar and served chilled over ice.
Hibiscus tea has a ton of benefits. Hibiscus tea has been known to prevent hypertension, lower blood pressure, reduce blood sugar levels, keep your liver healthy, help with menstrual cramps, help with depression, aid digestion and help with weight management. It's rich in Vitamin C, contains minerals such as flavonoids and has laxative properties. And it tastes delicious!
What I love about this drink is the tangy, sweet flavour, the sweet fragrance and the beautiful dark pink or red colour. In China red colour stands for good luck and prosperity. Red colour indicates heat and passion, and that's why valentines day is celebrated with red foods.Red cherries and strawberries symbolize love and romance. Red also stimulates appetite. No wonder!! , this is my favourite drink. ❤

Steps
- 1
Remove the calyx(green part at the base of the flower to which stem is attached) along with stem. Remove the stigma and pistil(thread like part in the centre of the flower holding yellow pollen) of each flower.
- 2
Wash the flowers well and separate the petals.
- 3
Bring the water and hibiscus flowers, to a boil in the sauce pan.
- 4
Once the water starts boiling, cook the petals till they turn white.
- 5
Switch of the gas, cover the vessel and let the tea sit for 15-20 minutes.
- 6
Strain the tea.(You can store this tea in the fridge for a long time.) Add sugar and lime juice and mix well.
- 7
Serve warm or chilled using ice cubes. I like it chilled with some lemon wedges and mint.
- 8
Tip- when the tea is sitting, you can add other flavourings like lemon grass, Basil, mint etc.
