Cherry Red Plums and Apple Mojito

#Colour Red
The scarlet red plum, this cut globular fruit seduced me into making this Plum and Apple Mojito. It is a small ruby red orb, sweet and sour and packs a punch. A handful of plums a day give you carbs, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and proteins to keep you healthy. Plums are rich in vitamin Ke that is good for kids as it helps in building healthy bones and Vitamin-A which is great for a strong vision. Along with these benefits, it is good for the digestive system too.
While whizzing paste the other day, I saw many cart vendors selling plums and I just stopped and grabbed a pound. I wondered what I could make with them and I struck upon the idea of a Juicy Plum Mojito. I have made mango and lychee Mojitos then why not with plums. I set out to make the Mojito wondering how it would taste and I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out just perfect.

I love the taste of lemons but the distinctive flavour of the plums was very refreshing. The ripe plums were sweet and I had to add minimum sugar (choose the deep red ones if you want sweet plums). I added Indian spices like fresh mint, cumin powder and black salt and juice of one apple and lemon juice. The black salt and cumin powder give the mojito a really flavourful punch. The muddled fresh mint leaves from my garden gave out a heady aroma. You can add or remove whatever suits your palate. It looked bright red, exotic and rich and as I love red.

Steps

  1. 1

Wash the plums, pit and chop them. Boil the water and add the chopped plums. Boil for 5 minutes or till the plums are soft.
Take the boiled plums and drop them in a food processor. Strain the juice. Add the lemon juice, powdered sugar, cumin powder, black salt and stir. You can add less or more according to your taste. Muddle some fresh mint leaves and add to the juice (you can add dried mint if you do not have fresh).

  2. 2

Plums can be sour so I grated one apple and extracted the juice by squeezing it through a muslin cloth.
Pour the apple juice into a tall glass and add the plum juice to it. Add enough water according to the consistency you require.

  3. 3

I added lots of ice cubes, garnished with a lemon slice and fresh mint.
This Fruity Plum and Apple Mojito is great for your parties as it looks so striking and elegant with a totally different tangy taste.

    Recipe Notes
Add or minus the black salt, cumin powder or sugar.
Choose dark plums for a sweeter flavour.
Add a shot of vodka to make a heady cocktail.
