Gujarati Dal #GujaratiFood101

For about 26 years of my life, I have lived with the fear of Gujarati Dal. I always thought that it is sweet and pale and full of complex flavors. The restaurants where I had it a couple of times didnt help me get rid of it.
Soon after I got engaged in Feb 2011, my mother in law made me taste the most beautiful home made Gujarati Dal. It was spicy, sweet, salty and sour. It is a masterpiece.
Here it is for you to tantalize the taste buds.

Cracker Barrel's Hashbrown Casserole Cracker Barrel's Hashbrown Casserole
My mom made this over the holidays and my picky son absolutely devoured this. The recipe called for hashbrowns and an onion...I ended up using southern style hashbrowns (which is diced opposed to shredded) and green onions with a bit of onion powder. I also used a mix of colby jack cheese with some sharp cheddar. It came out super delicious. Angela -

Creamy hash browns (slow cooker) Creamy hash browns (slow cooker)
This recipe comes from Taste of Home's Slow Cooker Favorites book and credits Donna Downes of Las Vegas, Nevada. If you like some zip to your recipes, you may want try adding ground red chipotle pepper (I recommend Penzeys.com). Just sprinkle on to taste in the last hour of cooking. I do not recommend adding hot sauce as it tends to separate the soup/cream mixture. Theresa Cochran -
World's Best Hashbrown Casserole World's Best Hashbrown Casserole
I started making this several years ago when we were having trouble making ends meet and only had a random assortment of food in the house, aside from ramen noodles of course. We had a half a roll of sausage, half a bag hashbrowns, some green beans, some gravy mix, and some cheese. There wasn't really enough of anything to make anything, so I just threw it all in a pan. Much to our surprise and delight, I had just created our new favorite dinner!*It is hard to plate it and make it look nice, but the taste more than makes up for that!!*Also, I have tried it with many different vegetables, but green beans worked the best. Fresh or frozen broccoli would be good as well, but then my husband wouldn't eat it, lol. m.volk -
