This is a dish my mother used to make often. Loved it. When I joined the Navy I was surprised to find that this is a long time Navy recipe. She learned it from her father who was a cook in the navy during WWII. I still make this often and think of my mother every time.

Ingredients

  1. 1 lbGround beef
  2. 1 cancorn, drained
  3. 1 canKidney beans, drained
  4. 1medium onion, chopped
  5. 1 packagesTaco seasoning
  6. 1 boxjiffy corn bread
  7. 1egg
  8. 1milk

Cooking Instructions

    Put onion and beef in skillet. Cook till meat is browned.

    Strain away fat

    Place beef and onions back in pan, add corn, kidney beans and taco seasoning. Add a little extra water than the taco seasoning calls for.

    After letting simmer for a few minutes place mixture in a large glass baking dish. Mixture should be about 1-1/2 inches thick or so.

    Prepare cornbread batter and carefully cover the meat mixture with batter.

    Bake to the instructions on cornbread. When its done slice and enjoy.

    This is quick, easy, and inexpensive. The US Navy has been serving this for a very long time. I love this dish. You will too. Add cheese under cornbread if u like. Very yummy.

Can I use a different kind of bean or leave out the beans? Me and my people aren't fans of kidney beans
