Ingredients

20 to 25 mins
3 to 4 servings
  1. 1/2 cupYellow Moong Dal
  2. 1/2 cup+ 1 tbsp Ghee
  3. 1 tbspBesan or Chickpea Flour
  4. 1 tbspRava or Semolina
  5. 1/2 cupSugar
  6. 1/2 cupWater
  7. few strandsSaffron
  8. 1/4 tspCardamom Powder
  9. 1/4 tspNutmeg Powder
  10. as requiredRoughly chopped Almonds, Pistachios and Cashew Nuts as required
  11. as requiredRaisins

Cooking Instructions

20 to 25 mins

    Wash and soak moong dal for 4 to 5 hrs in enough water. Drain excess water and grind it to a paste using very little or no water.

    In a pan add water, sugar, saffron, cardamom powder and nutmeg powder. Bring it to boil on low flame. Once sugar dissolves, switch off the flame.

    Heat up the ghee (1/2 cup) in another pan on low flame. Add besan and rava and cook on low flame stirring continuously till it turns light brown in colour.

    Then add moong dal paste and mix well. Cook on low flame till it turns golden brown in colour and turns sandy in texture.

    Once dal is evenly brown in colour, add prepared sugar syrup and mix well. Stirring continuously cook till dal absorbs all the syrup. Add a tbsp of ghee and mix well. Add roughly chopped nuts and raisins. Mix well and switch off the flame.

    Serve hot or warm or chilled with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
