Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray donut pan with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.

In a large bowl whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

In a small bowl whisk together egg, milk, butter, and vanilla extract.

Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until all ingredients are combined. Do not over-mix.

Spoon batter into donut cavities, fill 3/4 of the way full.

Place in the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes.

Remove from oven and set on wire rack, when cool enough to handle flip upside down on rack.

In a medium bowl whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract and salt. Add tablespoons of milk and whisk to combine. If the glaze is too thick add additional milk 1/2 tsp at a time.

Add food coloring if desired.

Dip warm donuts in glaze, return to wire rack and immediately top with sprinkles. Wait around 39 minutes to stack or serve.
