15 mins Age dashi dofu - Japanese deep fried tofu 🇯🇵

When I saw the Taufu topic, I remembered that @sasha_sabrina asked me to share how to cook Agedashi tofu over a year ago. She told me that it’s available in the Japanese restaurant in Malaysia. So sorry for being this late but let me share my first version to cook it😂 The authentic way is to make the dipping sauce from dashi, but this time I made with Mentsuyu sauce which is quicker to cook. I’ll share the authentic version too in the coming weeks!😊
Since I forgot to buy green leek or white radish which I usually add as toppings, I only added grated ginger this time. But if you have them, please have them too! It will be more delicious!

Cara Memasak
- 1
Cut the tofu into four pieces and place on a tray. Remove excess water with a paper towel. Sprinkle potato starch and make sure all sides of tofu are coated with the starch.
- 2
Heat oil in a pan(2-3cm depth) and start frying tofu. Use tongs instead of chopsticks to roll the tofu and fry all sides. It’s also ok to deep fried them in a plenty of oil, but I prefer to use less oil not to waste the oil as well as to make the cleaning step easier!
- 3
Prepare the dipping sauce by adding Mentsuyu and water. Once the tofu turns light brown and crispy, remove from the pan and put them into the sauce. Add your favorite toppings and ready to eat!!

Agedashi Tofu - 揚げ出し豆腐 Agedashi Tofu - 揚げ出し豆腐
I remembered the delicious Agedashi Tofu which I had in a Japanese restaurant the other day, so I decided to try making it at home.2 Tips to make it successful:- Removing the excess water from the tofu helps to keep it in shape and also prevents oil splattering.- When frying the tofu, only touch it when turning it over. If you move it too much, the tofu will fall apart. Kanaaneko -
Chinese style crab meat omelette on rice “Tenshinhan”, cooking for 1 person - 天津飯 Chinese style crab meat omelette on rice “Tenshinhan”, cooking for 1 person - 天津飯
“Tenshinhan” is recognized as Chinese dish in Japan, but it was actually born in Japan, which I didn’t know until just now😂It’s easy but fulfilling and looks good too. As I know that my mother, who is a housewife, often cooks this for lunch when she is alone at home(I know this because she sent me URLs of Cookpad Japan’s “Tenshinhan” recipes or her cooksnaps few times before).Today, as I had to take a dinner by myself, I remembered this dish and tried cooking it. I combined 2 recipes from Cookpad Japan and here I would like to save my version. Kanaaneko -
Hainan chicken rice cooked in Staub pot 🐓 "So shiok!" 😋🇸🇬 Hainan chicken rice cooked in Staub pot 🐓 "So shiok!" 😋🇸🇬
Having lived in Singapore for around 10 years, Hainan chicken rice is one of my most favorite dishes of all! ❤️I’m always missing the taste in local hawker center, especially Tian Tian in Maxwell food court. My recipe is still very far from that authentic professional level, but I’m confident that this is delicious enough to enjoy at home😁 And it’s so easy too!(You don’t need to prepare a whole chicken or boil it for few hours)Instead of using a Staub pot, you can use a rice cooker to cook chicken and rice too!As for the sauce, please try dark soy sauce if you can buy it as it usually comes together with chicken rice in Singapore. Since it’s not widely available in Japan, this time I made an original sauce(which is also tasty though!).😉*Shiok means delicious in Singlish. Kanaaneko -

Korean yangnyeom chicken made with homemade sauce - 양념치킨🇰🇷 Korean yangnyeom chicken made with homemade sauce - 양념치킨🇰🇷
Korean yangnyom chicken is one of the most popular foods which we've seen in lots of Korean dramas. When I went to Seoul last time, I found chicken shops everywhere. There are about 36,000 fried chicken restaurants in South Korea(data as of 2016). This is more than the number of McDonald's stores worldwide!!😱💦According to my husband, who is from Korea, yangnyeom chicken is usually not a home-cooked food and people mostly buy or order from outside. However, in overseas, we cannot always find Korean chicken shops. Also, I believe that the homemade one can be a bit more healthier than the one from outside. Therefore, I searched for over 10 recipes from several sources both in Korean and Japanese and made my own original sauce🙌 My husband loved it so it must be close to the authentic one!In Korea, pickled radishes always come together with yangnyeom chicken. I have uploaded the recipe too, so please cook together!!❤️ Kanaaneko -
Chicken and Century Egg Porridge Chicken and Century Egg Porridge
My comfort food is porridge. When I’m sick or missing home, or just on a chilly morning mood, porridge is my go-to meal. The porridge that I am used to is not the popular bubur McD, but the traditional old school hawker rice porridge with century egg. Some stalls will cook them in a claypot over a charcoal stove which makes the nostalgic frangrance.Century egg has its fan base. It’s either you love it or hate it😂. I am quite a lover. Ruth -
Korean bukeoguk soup - Dried pollack soup 🇰🇷 Korean bukeoguk soup - Dried pollack soup 🇰🇷
This soup is traditionally said to have many health benefits and it's especially popular as a way to recover from hangover😅 You might have seen this soup in the K drama too. In many cases, people from K drama are eating this in the morning after too much drinking on the night before...😂If you can find "Korean dried shredded pollock/pollack", then please try making this very comforting soup!! (The best dried pollock is dried by the wind from the sea, which is called "Hwangtae (황태)". Please see the pollack package from my step photo too.) Kanaaneko -
Kimchi natto udon for weekday lunch Kimchi natto udon for weekday lunch
Have you ever tried natto, fermented soybeans from Japan? In foreign countries, it’s known as stingy and sticky food😅 But I love it and I hope there is natto lover in Cookpad too😂💕We usually eat natto together with white rice, but I sometimes eat with udon noodles which is also good. This time, I added kimchi too! If you have chance to try, please tell me how you like it😁My own challenge in October: #1day1recipe 😆 Kanaaneko -
Japanese soft and juicy teriyaki chicken 🇯🇵 Japanese soft and juicy teriyaki chicken 🇯🇵
To make the chicken soft and juicy, I’m adding some sugar when seasoning the chicken. Because sugar works as a natural tenderizer! I learned this tip from Cookpad Japan author.😊This recipe is quick and easy. Basically, fry chicken and add teriyaki sauce in the last step! It’s my family’s favorite and hope you and your family will enjoy too! Looking forward to your cooksnaps ❤️❤️#cppassport Kanaaneko -

Homemade additive-free vegetable broth with vegetable leftovers and scraps 🥕🥬🧅🥔 Homemade additive-free vegetable broth with vegetable leftovers and scraps 🥕🥬🧅🥔
In recent years, people tend to use store-bought stock cubes when making soup, stew or sauce. I often use them too, but today, I felt like I wanted to try making broth from scratch which must be a healthier choice. This is also a great way to rescue leftover vegetables or even scraps which we tend to just throw away! (And I also read somewhere that the vegetable skins have high nutrients) #cookeverypartWith this recipe, you can enjoy delicious softly boiled vegetables too. You can freeze the remaining stock for the future use when you want to directly eat as soup or use for any dishes instead if using water!(eg. Curry, stew, risotto, etc) Kanaaneko -
“Soto Ayam” which reminds me of childhood days in Jakarta🇮🇩 “Soto Ayam” which reminds me of childhood days in Jakarta🇮🇩
I used to live in Jakarta, Indonesia during my childhood. When I visited my Indonesian friend’s house, her mother cooked us a very delicious and comforting Soto Ayam. Since then, Soto Ayam has been my most favorite Indonesian dish.Back in Japan, unfortunately, there are not many places where they serve Soto Ayam. Therefore, I need to cook at home. This recipe is mainly based on what I found from Cookpad Japan.
