Easy Pita Bread in a Food Processer

I was making "eterno"'s bagels and was really impressed by the idea of using a processor to make them. I wondered if it was possible to make pita bread the same way, and after much trial and error I finally arrived at this recipe.

In Step 4, make sure the seams are facing up when rolling the dough out with a rolling pin. Stretch it out gently. If the dough doesn't rise enough, open it up with a knife.

When using an electric oven, bake at 300℃ for best results. Recipe by Akkorin mama

Ingredients

4 servings
  1. 200 gramsAll purpose flour (or 50% bread flour and 50% cake flour)
  2. 1 tspSugar
  3. 1/2 tspSalt
  4. 1 tspOlive oil
  5. 1heaped teaspoon Dried Yeast
  6. 120 mlLukewarm water

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Put all ingredients into the food processor and blend. I usually blend for 3 minutes but this depends on your food processor. Keep your eye on it, and blend until the dough becomes smooth.

  2. 2

Transfer the dough into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let the dough rise for 50 minutes (or until doubled in size).

  3. 3

Divide into 4 to 5 portions. Roll up into a dough. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest for 10 minutes.

  4. 4

On a sheet of parchment paper, roll the dough into a flat ball. Spread it out by gently rolling it with a rolling pin etc. It should be about 12 to 14 cm diameter (and slightly thinner than your earlobes). Preheat the oven to 250℃.

  5. 5

Place the rolled out dough onto a baking tray and bake for 5 to 6 minutes at 230℃ (or until plump and risen). Take it out when done. Keep in a plastic bag to avoid drying up.
