Fried Green Tomatoes

My all time favorite!! I wait all year to make and eat this. Classic southern US cuisine at its finest. These are straight out of our garden.

My all time favorite!! I wait all year to make and eat this. Classic southern US cuisine at its finest. These are straight out of our garden.
Steps
- 1
In a large bowl, place sliced tomatoes. Add 1/2 cup of flour to the tomatoes and roll and toss them until well coated. Let sit.
- 2
In a gallon ziploc bag, add the other 1/2 cup of flour and the 1/2 cup cornmeal. Add seasonings and use aggressively. Shake bag
- 3
In a cup, beat the egg and water and pour over the tomatoes in the bowl. Completely coat. Add about 4 tomatoes in the bag and shake. Leaving those in the bag add a few more and shake until they’re all in the bag and covered.
- 4
Heat enough oil, over medium high, heat for a shallow fry. Add a batch of tomatoes into the oil. Don’t over crowd. They fry fast. Do in batches until they’re all golden brown and delicious. Drain on paper towels
- 5
Prepping first makes this process go very fast.
