Hearty, warming stew for a cold winter day or evening.

Ingredients

  1. Stew
  2. 1-3/4 poundground venison
  3. 1 poundcarrots
  4. 1-1/2 poundwhite potatoes
  5. 2 cupssweet pea pods
  6. 1/3 cupSpanish ground paprika
  7. 1 tablespoonsgranulated garlic powder
  8. 1 tablespoonsgranulated onion powder
  9. 1 teaspoonground white pepper powder
  10. 1 quartmushroom stock
  11. 2 tablespoonsvegetable oil
  12. 1 stickbutter
  13. To taste salt
  14. 1-1/2 cupschopped smoked ham chunks
  15. Mashed Potatoes
  16. 2-1/2 poundspotatoes
  17. To taste salt
  18. 15 ouncesevaporated milk
  19. 1 stickbutter
  20. As neededif any milk

Cooking Instructions

    Peel and slice the carrots and potatoes. Dice the onions. Add seasonings. Heat the oil in a pot. Brown the venison in the oil, add in the seasoned vegetables. Mix well add in the mushroom stock. Simmer.

    Add in the ham chunks when it has simmered 20 minutes. Add the paprika. Stir well simmer uncovered 20 minutes.

    Check the potatoes and carrots, they should be fork tender. If not simmer till fork tender. Make the mashed potatoes. Peel and cube the potatoes. Cover with water, when fork tender, drain. Mash the potatoes adding the butter and milk. Season with salt to taste. Serve the potatoes with stew on top. You can substitute the potatoes for rice. I hope you enjoy!!!
