Cooking Instructions
- 1
Rinse the baby lima beans and soak in water in a big pot overnight. They double in size.
- 2
Discard floating skins in the water and peel the skins of the beans.
- 3
Bring to a boil over a high heat. Add water and bring back to a boil. Drain in a colander and discard the water.
- 4
Return the beans to the pot and cover with fresh water. Simmer over low heat slowly until the beans lose their shape.
- 5
After simmering, mash with a masher and pass through a sieve over a big bowl.
- 6
Stir gently and leave to stand. Let the mashed beans settle at the bottom and discard the layer of liquid on top.
- 7
Repeat this process until the top layer of liquid is clear. After this, pour over the content onto a tea towel. Squeeze and drain the excess moisture very well. You'll have white bean paste in the tea towel.
- 8
Put the white bean paste into a medium sized pan and add half of the sugar and salt. Put on low heat and stir constantly.
- 9
After the sugar dissolves, add the rest of the sugar. Scrape the bottom of the pan and stir constantly until thick and shiny.
- 10
When you scoop with a spatula, drop it, and the paste stands, remove from heat.
- 11
Put the bean paste into an air-tight container or resealable bag to chill or freeze.

Personally, I like it when they come out soft. Bites of this will melt in your mouth -- they'll feel nothing like the store-bought kind.In order for them to turn out soft, use a small amount of kanten. If you prefer a more sturdy texture, use 5 g.The sweet bean jelly paste can be easily made, but knowing when to remove the mixture from the heat probably requires some experience. If the tsubu-an is on the hard side, or if too much liquid has evaporated, you can fix it by adding some boiling water. Find the right timing that works for you. Recipe by Kamoshian cookpad.japan -

I got a lot of fava beans from a friend, so I made this. It's also delicious made from edamame. It takes a little bit of work, but all the steps are fairly simple. In Step 2, use the strainer for a smooth feel, while mashing with a fork retains some of the bean feel. Both are delicious. Please adjust the sugar amount as desired. I use 30 g to better make use of the flavor of the beans. Recipe by mary cookpad.japan -

If you make your own anko, you can adjust the sweetness to your taste. It's also preservative-free, so I like it.There's no need to cook the beans for 1 to 2 hours. Just repeat the boil-simmer and cool steps, and you'll end up with tender and plump cooked beans. Use a pan with a thick bottom. If you use the same amount of sugar as the beans, the anko will be not that sweet. Please adjust the amount of sugar to taste. Recipe by umemodoki cookpad.japan -
White bean stew! White bean stew!
First day of spring, but here in Connecticut, today doesn’t really feel like it…I’m bringing you a traditional Spanish stew, perfect for cold winter days. I’ve known this dish since I was little—it was always in my home! 🥰It’s very easy to make and packed with flavor!Plus, white beans are rich in fiber (over 21gr per 100gr), which helps regulate digestion. They’re also a great source of B vitamins, especially folic acid, and minerals like potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, and zinc. Chus Molinero -

I make ichigo daifuku a lot, but I live in the countryside, so it's hard to buy shiro-an. I tried making it in a microwave once, but I developed my own way, adjusting the sweetness to my taste.Passing the bean paste through a sieve will result in a very smooth texture. If you transfer the bean paste quickly to a storage container, cover the surface with paper towels and close the lid, the surface won't get too dry or get too wet because of the condensation. If the lid of the storage container won't close properly, cover with plastic wrap. For as much as you like. Recipe by sweet89 cookpad.japan -
