Ingredients

12 people
  1. Stew
  2. 3 poundshamburger
  3. 1/4 poundbacon
  4. 1-1/3 poundmeatballs
  5. 1 pounddiced carrots
  6. 1 cupsliced celery
  7. 1 cuppearl zesty cocktail onions
  8. 1 poundred potatoes
  9. 1 stickbutter
  10. 2 cupssweet English peas
  11. 1 headgreen cabbage
  12. To taste salt and pepper
  13. 1/4 cupminced garlic
  14. 1 teaspoonsavory
  15. 1 cupdiced bell pepper
  16. 1 tablespoonpowered mustard
  17. 1 teaspoonrubbed sage
  18. 1-1/2 quartsbeef broth
  19. Roux
  20. 1 cupall purpose flour
  21. 1 pintbeef broth
  22. To taste salt and pepper

Cooking Instructions

    Dice the peppers, chop the cabbage, and slice the celery. Make the sure the celery is limp and washed.

    Get the onions out of the jar and slice them in half.

  3. 3

    Dice the carrots. Start browning the hamburger meat.

  4. 4

    Add in the meatballs, bacon, spices and simmer till browned. Drain off 1 cup of drippings.

    Peel and chop the potatoes. Add in the garlic. Mix and add all the vegetables except for the peas.

    Stir the vegetables into the meat and allow the cabbage to cook down covered. Add in the butter and beef broth. Simmer 20 minutes covered.

    As that is cooking heat the beef drippings to a skillet. When heated add in salt and pepper with the flour. Cook the flour in the drippings. Pour the roux into the stew. Stir well.

    Pour in the remaining broth and cover. Allow it to bubble.

    When it bubbles add the peas. Stir into the stew. Simmer 12 minutes, covered.

    Allow to rest 15 minutes off the heat. Stir and serve over rice. I hope you enjoy!!!
