Got tired of making the same old stove top green beans, so I came up with this variation. It's now a regular side in our household.

Ingredients

6 servings
  1. 2 cancans cut green beans, drained (fresh is best if you have the time)
  2. 4 cupwater
  3. 4cubes chicken boullion
  4. 1 1/2 tbspbutter
  5. 2 tspminced garlic (fresh best, dried ok)
  6. 1 dashblack pepper (to taste)
  7. 1 dashsalt (to taste)

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Use a pot large enough to allow all green beans to be covered by the water throughout the cooking process (taller pot, not wider).

  2. 2

Over high heat, bring water, boullion cubes, margarine, and garlic to a rolling boil until boullion cubes have dissolved and butter has melted.

  3. 3

Add cut green beans, turn heat down to medium-high, and allow them to boil for 3-5 minutes. If using canned, drain first.

  4. 4

Reduce heat and simmer for 1-3 hours. You can also prepare it more quickly by only reducing heat to medium and cooking until the broth has reduced down to the level of the beans.

  5. 5

Add salt and pepper to taste (although it should be plenty salty already).
