This is a wonderful recipe of an easy homemade white bread. There's nothing as amazing as the aroma of homemade bread as it bakes in your very own kitchen..
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare and weigh out all the ingredients and set aside
- 2
In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, salt, oil and 3 cups flour. Mix until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, to form a soft dough.
- 3
Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, approximately 8-10 minutes. However, the more you knead, the softer the bread will turn out. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top.
- 4
Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- 5
Once doubled in size, it should look like this....
- 6
Punch down the dough and turn it onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough in half, shaping each piece into a loaf. Place in greased pans. Cover and let rise for about 30-45 minutes.
- 7
Bake for 220 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes or until golden brown and bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- 8
Remove the bread from the baking pans to wire racks to cool.
- 9
When it has cooled completely, cut into slices and enjoy!

Chocolate Chip Challah Bread Chocolate Chip Challah Bread
Like with most bread doughs, this takes a long time to make. Allow for 5 hours of prep time. *Added* In hindsight, I would have added more chocolate chips. As the bread bakes, the volume doubles, and you really can't have a high enough chocolate chip per bite ratio. pow.shopow -
Sourdough Bread Sourdough Bread
This is a recipe from King Arthur Flour. It comes with the sourdough starter that can be ordered from them as well as finding it online in their website. It is a very good base recipe for making sourdough breads.Maintaining a proper sourdough starter is definitely a commitment. If you keep starter out at room temperature you will have to feed it every day. If you keep it refrigerated like I do, you will only have to feed it once a week to maintain it however you have to remove from fridge and feed it at least 8 to 12 hours before you want to make bread with it. And with both ways; always feed after use.Making a starter from scratch takes a lot of time before you can use for first time. I suggest getting a few ounces of a established starter from someone who has one already or order it from King Arthur Flour.Sourdoughs have different flavors depending on where you live. The sourdough bread I make in New York will taste different than a sourdough made in San Francisco. chris.zurhorst -
