This is my favorite Taiwanese traditional breakfast.😋 Making buns from scratch is interesting and fun, I forgot to take pictures, so just put some illustrations and hope they are clear enough!

This is my favorite Taiwanese traditional breakfast.😋 Making buns from scratch is interesting and fun, I forgot to take pictures, so just put some illustrations and hope they are clear enough!

Mix yeast and sugar with water. Then mix them with flour and oil. Knead the dough for around 10 mins and then cover a wet table towel and rest for 5 mins.

Mix chopped spring onions with oil, salt and white pepper. Roll the dough and shape it like an A4 paper. Spread your spring onions on the top. Fold the 2/3 dough then fold it to meet the rest of it as a 3 layered dough at the end. Slice them into 12 pieces for 6 buns. Rest for 10 mins.

Prepare a stick (I used a chopstick). 1. Stack one piece on top of another, facing the same way. Using a chopstick, press down in the middle, with the open edges on either side. 2. Using your hand circling both sides of edge to stick together and put the chopstick in the middle space. 3.Stretch your dough with the chopstick and your hand going opposite direction 4. Twist it by the chopstick like a cheese straw, and tuck the ends underneath to shape the buns and place on a square of baking paper.

Place the buns in the steamer and cook for 10 mins. Turn off heat and set aside, with the lid on, for 5 minutes to rest for smooth and shiny surfaces.
Serve warm with a pan fried egg wrapped inside. Or, cool completely, then place in zip-lock bags and freeze until needed !
