Swedish bread

Or as we call in Sweden - sirapslimpa (syrup loaf). My English hubby thinks this is the best thing ever with some butter and cheese on it. I tend to agree, especially together with a cup of hot chocolate after a walk in the snow (or any other time of the year). ❄🌷🌞☔

Or as we call in Sweden - sirapslimpa (syrup loaf). My English hubby thinks this is the best thing ever with some butter and cheese on it. I tend to agree, especially together with a cup of hot chocolate after a walk in the snow (or any other time of the year). ❄🌷🌞☔
Steps
- 1
Warm the milk up a bit (37 degrees) and mix with yeast, salt and syrup. Add the flour and butter and knead for 10 minutes (this dough is quite sticky but if it gets a bit too sticky just add some more flour).
- 2
Let rise under a towel until it's doubled in size, about 1 hour. Shape into a loaf and put in a tin if you've got one, otherwise just put it on a baking tray with some grease proof paper.
- 3
Let rise for another hour and then bake in the oven at 190 degrees for 50 minutes. If the bread gets a bit too dark in the oven, put some aluminium foil over it (I had to do this halfway through).
- 4
Mix syrup and water and brush the bread with the solution while the bread is still hot. This step is optional, but that shiny sweet crust is really nice 😋
