Hamburger Buns

I love fridays cause that's takeout night, unfortunately because of the lockdown I won't take out the kiddies or order out, so next best thing was to make them what i would normally buy out for them. The bun is a bit heavy, i dislike soft buns cause then i have to eat more to be full, my kiddies garnish as they choose and it done, happy kiddies makes a happy home.

Steps

prep @ 30min, waiting @ 90min, bake time @ 15min
  1. 1

In a clean bowl add your warm milk and mix in your sugar, salt and yeast, give the mixture 5minutes to proof, if all is well the mix is foamy, if not foamy pour out contents and start again.

  2. 2

If all is well then you can continue to add 2.5 cups of flour to your yeast mixture and continue to mix with a wooden spoon.

  3. 3

Add in your butter and the remaining flour and mix until the dough is formed. Knead the dough for about 5min until its consistent, no bumps and not wet. Cover and leave the bowl in a warm place to rise for about 50 min.

  4. 4

After the dough has risen or doubled, remove from bowl and onto a lightly dusted surface of flour and lightly knead the dough. Shape and cut into equal pieces of the dough, mould the pieces into round shapes and transfer into a greased pan or non stick pan. Create enough spacing between the buns. Preheat oven @ 185deg C. Cover the pan with cling wrap and allow a second rise for about 30 min to 45 min.

  5. 5

After the second rise has taken place, dust the egg wash on your buns and transfer into oven for 13 to 15min.

  6. 6

Once your buns are ready, take out and let cool. Provide enough and different types of garnish for your kids to play around and feel in control of what they are putting on. The Kiddies love the options
