KUNBAKONAM KADAPPA :
Potato - 1 cup (cooked & mashed)
Moong dal - 1/2 cup ( cook until it's mushy)
Onion - 1 big, finely sliced
Oil - 2 tbsp
Salt - as needed
To grind :
Coconut - 1/4 cup
Kasakasa(poppy seeds) -1/2 tsp
Fried bengal gram(pottukadalai)- 1 tsp
Green chillies -4/5
Garlic -4 cloves
Fennel -1 tsp
To temper :
Cinnamon -1 stick
Bay leaves -1
Star anise -2
Cloves -2
Fennel -1/2 tsp
To garnish -- Coriander leaves finely chopped
Grind all the ingredients mentioned and keep. In a pan, temper all the ingredients as said, add sliced onion and saute until it turns transparent. Now add the cooked and mashed potatoes, cooked mushy moong dal, the ground paste and salt .let this simmer until the raw smell goes, garnish with coriander leaves and serve. Goes well with poori and chapathi.
For idly/dosa --- you can add one tomato and little turmeric along with it too.
