Ingredients

Makes 40 cookies
  1. 3/4 cupsoftened butter
  2. 3/4 cupsugar
  3. 1/2 cupmolasses
  4. 2 1/2 cupsAP flour
  5. 1/2 cupmilk (I used unsweetened almond)
  6. 1 1/2 tspbaking soda
  7. 1 Tground ginger
  8. 2 tspcinnamon
  9. 1 tspground cloves
  10. 2 tspnutmeg
  11. 2 Tfresh grated ginger
  12. 1/2 tspsalt
  13. 2 Tsanding sugar

Cooking Instructions

    Preheat oven to 350

    Cream butter, sugar and molasses

  3. 3

    Add milk and blend thoroughly

  4. 4

    In separate bowl, mix flour, soda and spices

  5. 5

    Add flour mixture to butter mixture slowly, mixing as you go

  6. 6

    Be sure to scrape down the bowl as you add more flour

  7. 7

    Add fresh ginger and salt

  8. 8

    Mix thoroughly

  9. 9

    Line baking sheets with parchment paper

  10. 10

    Scoop dough with a teaspoon

  11. 11

    Roll each scoop into a ball with your hands

  12. 12

    Coat each ball with sanding sugar before placing on baking sheet

  13. 13

    Flatten each cookie a little. They will not spread

  14. 14

    Bake 10-12 minutes

Started cooking/baking with Gram just as soon as I was old enough to stand in a chair, with her apron tied around my chest. Made my first solo Thanksgiving meal at age 8. Putting a new flair on classic nothern New England style cooking.
