This is not the only way to make torrijas: there are many variations to try. If you are a chocolate lover, you can make chocolate torrijas. To do so, simply add 2 or 3 spoonfuls of cocoa powder when you boil the milk. No doubt your little ones at home will want to eat them over and over again.

For a grown-up variation, you can add wine to the boiled milk or anise. You can also vary the recipe by drizzling with honey or dusting with icing sugar at the end.

  • 1 kgbread
  • 1 litremilk
  • Olive Oil from Spain
  • 2-3cinnamon sticks
  • 2eggs
  • Sugar

Steps

    Slice the baguettes in centimetre slices or, if you wish, you can buy specialty bread for torrijas. Do not use freshly baked baguettes, but ones that are a few days old.

    Once you have cut the bread slices for the torrijas, put the milk on to boil, adding the cinnamon sticks and sugar.Then leave the milk to cool.

    Dunk the bread slices into the milk, once it has cooled down.

  4. 4

    Beat the eggs in a bowl, and dip the soaked bread slices into it. Once the bread slices are covered with egg, fry them in a pan with lots of Olive Oil from Spain.

    Sprinkle some sugar and cinnamon over the cooked torrijas to give them extra flavour; alternatively, dip them into a mix of sugar and cinnamon.
