Handmade traditional modak-dipped in chocolate

Modak- prasad is offered to Lord Ganesha in Maharashtra on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi .Now a days this festival is celebrated not only in Maharashtra but other parts of the country.I have made traditional Modak,using rice flour,coconut, jaggery and nuts.

Heat ghee in a pan,add khus khus,saute,mix coconut powder and jaggery.Cook on a low flame till the jaggery melts. Switch off the gas.Sprinkle cardamom powder and mix.Add nuts and mix.Keep aside.

Heat water ina pan,add ghee and salt.When the water starts boiling,slow down the heat,add rice flour and mix.It will become like dough.Switch off the gas.Cover the rice mixture for 3-4 min.Now transfer it in a plate.Knead the dough when it is warm.Make a smooth dough.

To make Modak with hand,first divide the dough into 10 parts.Make a ball from all 10 portions.Take a ball flatten it,place 1/2 t.spoon. coconut filling in the center,make pleats with the outer edges of the rice dough and give the shape of a Modak. Make all the Modak like this with Mawa filling and coconut filling.

For steaming the Modak - heat water (2 cups).in a broad pan.Keep a greased strainer over it.When the water starts boiling,place the Modak in the strainer.Cover it and steam it for 12 to 15 min.

Remove from the strainer.Let it cool.

For chocolate dipped modak- melt chocolate in microwave.Dip your Modak into melted chocolate and keep it in the fridge for 15 min.Decorate it with silver vark.

Your traditional madak is ready for offering to Lord Ganesha. HAPPY GANESH CHATURTHI !
