Gather the ingredients. Rinse the rice three or four times until the water runs clear. You don't need to soak it or use hot water—cold water is fine. Drain well.

In a large saucepan, add all the ingredients and stir well. Turn on the heat and bring to a boil. Reduce to the lowest heat possible and simmer for 45 minutes without stirring. After 45 minutes, most of the water should be absorbed. Turn off the heat and let it rest, covered, for 10 minutes without stirring. After 10 minutes, fluff with a fork and let it sit until ready to serve.
