Crispy Fried Fish Balls

Crispy Fried Fish Balls made with rohu or katla fish ( both belonging to freshwater Indian Carp family) are an unique evening snack or can be the perfect appetizer on a party menu . Optionally any boneless fish cubes can be used to make this recipe.The fish is shredded after boiling or frying. It is then mixed with boiled and mashed potato, some spices and a binder which make these balls crunchy on the outside and soft inside and tastes delicious.

Crispy Fried Fish Balls made with rohu or katla fish ( both belonging to freshwater Indian Carp family) are an unique evening snack or can be the perfect appetizer on a party menu . Optionally any boneless fish cubes can be used to make this recipe.The fish is shredded after boiling or frying. It is then mixed with boiled and mashed potato, some spices and a binder which make these balls crunchy on the outside and soft inside and tastes delicious.

Boil 1 cup water in a wok or pan. Add the fish pieces,turmeric and salt to it.Let it cook till moisture dries out.After the cooked fish pieces has cooled partially, remove the bones and skin and shred it on a plate.Boil 1 potato and mash it till smooth and without any lumps.Mix it with the mashed fish.

Heat oil in a pan.Add minced garlic and saute till aromatic.Add chopped onion and saute for 2 minutes till translucent.Add ginger paste, chopped spring onion,shredded fish and boiled mashed potato.Add salt and 1/4 th tsp sugar to taste. Then add black pepper powder, red chilli powder,crushed fresh bread crumbs,gramflour and garam masala.Add chopped coriander. Mix all ingredients and toss till well mixed and dry.Set aside to cool.

Smear oil in hands.Make small balls from the mixture. Add cornflour to a bowl and gradually add water.Mix it well to make a slurry of flowing consistency. Dip the balls in the cornflour batter and roll it into the breadcrumbs. Repeat the process one more time to ensure thick coating.Heat oil in a frying pan or wok.

Deep fry them evenly for 2-3 minutes till they turn golden brown. Remove them with a slotted spoon and serve hot with a dip of choice or Hot and Sweet Tomato Chilli Sauce.
