Steps
- 1
Rinse the mochi rice and soak it for about 1 hour. If in a hurry, soak it in hot water. Just before cooking, drain the water using a strainer and place the rice in a bowl.
- 2
Finely chop the green onion, onion, and bamboo shoots marked with ◎. Dust with cornstarch and mix with chopsticks.
- 3
Mix the ground pork marked with ○, salt, and pepper well until sticky. Using disposable gloves can be convenient.
- 4
Add the seasonings marked with ● to the pork mixture and mix well. Then add the ◎ ingredients and mix thoroughly.
- 5
Shape the mixture from step 4 into balls and coat them with the mochi rice from step 1.
- 6
Cut a piece of parchment paper slightly larger than the bottom of the frying pan and place it inside. Place the rice-coated dumplings on the parchment paper.
- 7
Pour 2/3 cup (about 150 ml) of water between the frying pan and the parchment paper. Cover with a lid and heat on high. Once boiling, steam on low heat for 17 minutes with the lid on.
- 8
If the water level decreases while steaming, add more as needed.
- 9
Serve and enjoy!
Optionally, serve with mustard and soy sauce.
