Kataifi prawns

Prawns rolled in Kataifi pastry and served on top of cream cheese filled phylo cups makes a delicious and simple Greek-style party appetizer. Your guests are going to love these!
I got some prawns on sale and wanted something different than the usual garlicky prawns. I had Kataifi dough in the freezer along with the phylo cups and I ended up having an an impressive appetizer/canapé.
Instead of baking, I fried the wrapped prawns. Feel free to oven bake them.
With the tenderness in the inside and crunchiness on the outside, Kataifi Prawns can make your dull day crispy and crunchy!

Steps

Preheat oven 350 F/176C.

Place the phylo tarts on baking try and bake for 12 minutes or till golden. Remove and cool.

In a bowl whisk together the cream cheese and yogurt till smooth.

Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. Mix well and set aside.

Season the prawns with salt and pepper.

Place the Kataifi Pastry in a bowl and loosen until the strands are separated.

Lay it in a long strip on the board.

Place the a prawn at the bottom end of the Kataifi and roll it tightly, leaving the tail uncovered.

On wet hand place the wrapped prawn, squeezing it firmly. This will compact any loose strands and prevent them from unravelling when you fry them.

Repeat with the remaining prawns and Kataifi.

Add oil to a small pot, and bring it to a medium heat.

Carefully place the prawns into the hot oil and fry for approximately 5 minutes or until golden.

Remove on kitchen paper.

Filling the tart shells with the cream cheese filling.

Sprinkle parsley and chilli flakes.

Place a Kataifi prawn on each tart and serve.
