Soak kollu overnight and pressure cook it. Then drain excess water. You can use this water in rasam, gravy etc.

Heat oil, add mustard seeds and udad dal, and let them splutter. Add onion, green chilies, and curry leaves along with asafoetida. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.

Add pressure-cooked horse gram, salt, and turmeric powder. Mix and cook for a while.

Finally, add grated coconut, mix, and cook for a couple of seconds. Turn off the heat.
