Plaited bread
I made this like so long ago and it popped into my mind and it’s also really good with cumin seeds also longest recipe I have done
Steps
- 1
In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar. Make a well in the centre and pour in the warm liquid and oil/butter.
- 2
Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead on a lightly floured surface for about 8–10 minutes by hand or 5 mins by mixer
- 3
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for half an hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- 4
Deflate the dough and divide it into three equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long "sausage" shape, about 30–40cm long.
- 5
Pinch the three strands together at one end. Cross the right strand over the middle, then the left strand over the middle, repeating until you reach the end.
- 6
Pinch the bottom ends together and tuck both ends underneath the loaf for a tidy finish.
- 7
Place the loaf on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover and let it prove for another 30–45 minutes.
- 8
Preheat your oven to 200°C (180°C fan). Brush the top of the loaf with egg wash for a shiny, golden crust. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown and the base sounds hollow when tapped.
- 9
Then enjoy
