Crunchy Waffles

In Sweden people celebrate different pastry days in a year like Fettisdagen (semla), Dammsugardagen (mint chocolate roll), Kanelbullens dag (cinnamon bun). I love most of them and one of the best one is Våffeldagen (waffle day). This is the crunchy recipe from Cecilia Tolone (you can check out her videos on YouTube) with slight adjustment in the sugar amount to my taste.
Crunchy Waffles

Combine all liquid ingredients

Combine all dried ingredients and sift together

Whisk liquids and dries together

Whisk in melted butter
- 5
Allow to rest for 2 hours before making
- 6
Apply generous amount of butter or oil on the waffle iron after heating it up for 5-10 minutes

Pour the batter in the waffle iron and let it cook until crispy and golden
- 8
Serve with whipped cream/vanilla ice cream and jams
Tips
If you are using a cast iron on open heat like me, beware of the sticking because you will need some time for the learning curve of your stove. I do have a tip that I pour in the batter on one side first, let it cook for 5-6 minutes until that side is nicely golden. Then flip the other side on the stove and then close the iron. This way your waffles are at least cooked on one side and easier to remove if the other is sticky.
