Ingredients

  • For the Frosting:
  • 2 cupssugar
  • 6 TblCocoa
  • 2/3 cupmilk
  • 1/2 cupshortening
  • 1/8 tspsalt
  • 2 tspblackberry brandy
  • For the cake:
  • 3/4unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 3/4 cupsugar
  • 2eggs
  • 1 tspblackberry brandy
  • 2 cupsflour
  • 3/4 cupCocoa
  • 1 1/4 tspbaking soda
  • 1/2 tspsalt
  • 1 1/3 cupmilk

Steps

    For the cake:

    Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. 3

    Add eggs and brandy, beat until smooth and uniform.

  4. 4

    Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Add alternately with the milk to the creamed mixture.

  5. 5

    Pour batter into 2 greased and floured (with cocoa) into 2 8" cake pans.

  6. 6

    Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.

    Cool. Frost with the icing in your fridge.

    For the frosting/icing:

    Mix all ingredients together except for the brandy in a medium pan and heat over high heat.

    Stir constantly until the mixture begins to boil.

  11. 11

    After 2 minutes of boiling and stirring constantly, remove from heat.

  12. 12

    After the mixture cools for a few minutes, add the brandy.

  13. 13

    Allow the mixture to cool thoroughly and then place into the refrigerator for several hours.
