Ingredients

  1. 6 tbspButter, softened
  2. 1/3 cupButter flavored shortening
  3. 1/2 cupPacked light brown sugar
  4. 1/3 cupGranulated sugar
  5. 1Egg
  6. 1 1/2 tspVanilla extract
  7. 1 1/4 cupCups all purpose flower
  8. 1/2 tspBaking soda
  9. 1/2 tspSalt
  10. 2 cupHershey's special dark chocolate chips
  11. 3/4 cupChopped nuts optional

Steps

  1. 1

    Heat oven to 350°F

  2. 2

    Beat butter and shortening in a large bowl until well blended. Add brown sugar and granulated sugar; beat thoroughly.

  3. 3

    Add egg and vanilla, beating until well blended. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into butter mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts, if desired. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheet.

    Bake 10 - 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly, remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.
