Ingredients

3-4 servings
  • 1 cupsoaked basmati rice
  • 1/2 cupgreen peas
  • 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  • 1green chill slit
  • 1bay leaf
  • 3cloves
  • 2cardamoms
  • 1/2 inchcinnamon stick
  • 1/2star anise
  • 2 cupshot water
  • 1 tbsghee
  • to tasteSalt

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash the rice well till starch leaves. Soak the rice for 15 min. Not too long else the grains get too soft and will break

  2. 2

    In a non stick khadai, add ghee

  3. 3

    Add items from 5-9 and stir well till you get a nice aroma

  4. 4

    Add the green chill. Fry for few seconds

  5. 5

    Add green peas. Fry for 2-3 min

  6. 6

    Add turmeric
    Add rice and fry for 1 min. Stir continuously so that the grains don’t get stuck to the bottom

  7. 7

    Add the hot water and taste for salt

  8. 8

    Give it a stir and when the water bubbles close with lid

  9. 9

    The peas pulav will be ready in 12-15min (for 1 cup) depending on the quantity of rice. Cover and cook till the rice is well done
