Ingredients

  1. 2.2 lbschicken breast, washed and cut into shawarma-style strips (about 1 kg)
  2. 2 cupsplain yogurt (about 480 ml)
  3. 1/4 cupvinegar (about 60 ml)
  4. Salt, black pepper, cumin, chili powder, paprika, ginger, mixed spices, and cinnamon, to taste
  5. 3tomatoes, diced
  6. 3green bell peppers, chopped
  7. 1hot chili pepper, chopped
  8. 2colored bell peppers (such as red or yellow), chopped
  9. 1large onion, sliced
  10. 5 tablespoonsoil (about 75 ml)
  11. Chopped iceberg lettuce
  12. Syrian flatbread (or pita bread)

Steps

    Marinate the chicken with vinegar, yogurt, and spices. Let it sit for at least 3 hours.

  2. 2

    In a skillet over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of oil and heat. Add the marinated chicken, stir, and cook until it releases its juices and absorbs them completely.

  3. 3

    Add the onion and sauté for 2 minutes. Add all the peppers and sauté for another 2 minutes. Add the tomatoes, stir, then remove from heat.

  4. 4

    Take the flatbread and fill it with the chicken shawarma and some chopped lettuce. Wrap it tightly.

  5. 5

    Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a nonstick skillet. Add the sandwiches and toast them on all sides until golden brown. Enjoy!
