Steps

Wash and Soak chana dal for 15 minutes.

Transfer dal in pressure cooker. Add water, salt and turmeric powder and close the lid. Pressure cook for 6 minutes after first whistle.

Let pressure releases automatically. Open the lid and mash dal with ladle for 1 minute.

Peel and chop onion. Grate ginger and tomato.

Now heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and when cumin seeds splutter put chopped onions, grated ginger, asafetida and sauté till onion turn translucent. Add grated tomato and cook till oil leaves the sides. Add red chilli powder, whole red chilli, garam masala and mix.

Pour this Tadka on dal and cook for 1 minute.

Serve hot garnished with chopped coriander leaves with parantha or puri.
