Boil all ingredients 'v mundirah'

Chop onions (finely), chop herring into small bits.

Grate potatoes, eggs, carrots, beets on small grater.

Layers: potato, herring, onion, thin layer of mayo, carrots, egg, beets, mayo - then repeat the entire set.

Let sit for an hour, serve at room temperature.
