Tarka dal

Tarka dal is my favourite curry. I usually make this every week as it’s so easy, I always have everything in the cupboard and it’s good for you too.

Steps
- 1
Rinse the lentils through a sift until the water runs clear
- 2
Add the lentils into a large pan and pot boiling water in. Half boiling water half lentils.
- 3
Leave to boil for around five minuets and remove all of the foam from the top.
- 4
Add the turmeric, garam masala, cumin seeds and salt. Add the chillies/ chilli power depending on how spicy you like your curry. You can also add coriander if you like it. Leave this on a low heat for 30 mins.
- 5
Chop one onion and two garlic cloves in vegetable oil, frying to onions first then adding the garlic.
- 6
Add a big spoon of butter into the friend onions and garlic.
- 7
Pour the butter onions and garlic into your daal and leave for another 30mins.
- 8
I like to have my daal with a buttery naan but you could have with chapatis or rice too.
