Stir together flour, baking powder, soda, and ¾ teaspoon salt. Set aside.

Preheat oven to 350.

Beat sugar and shortening until light, scraping sides of bowl often.

Add eggs, one at a time, and the milk. Beat until smooth after each addition.

Add flour mixture and banana alternately to creamed mixture. Beat until smooth after each addition.

Turn batter into lightly greased 8x4x2 inch loaf pan.

Bake for 60-65 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted into misfile comes out clean.

Let cool for 10 minutes in pan, then remove. Can be served warm or, for easier slicing, wrap and store overnight.
