Ingredients

45 mins
4-5 servings
  • 250 GMhead portion of the fish (I have used chonak/ sea bass)
  • 1/2 cupfreshly grated coconut
  • 1big onion, finely chopped
  • 1green chilli, slit vertically
  • 1 TSPturmeric powder
  • 1 TSPred chilli powder
  • 4-5dried kokam pieces
  • 1-2 TSPcoconut oil
  • to tasteSalt
  • 1/2 TSPSugar
  • 3-4 TBSPwater

    Apply 1/2 TSP turmeric powder and about 1 TSP salt to the cleaned fish and keep aside.

    In a pan, heat the coconut oil. Add green chilli and onion. Sauté till the onions soften.

    Next add in the freshly grated coconut and fish and sauté for a few mins.

    Add the remaining turmeric powder, red chilli powder and sugar. Add salt as per taste- remember we have added some salt to the marinade as well. Add kokam pieces, some water and give it a good mix. As you mix, some flesh from the fish will separate from the bone and that's fine.

    Cover with a plate and add some water on top of this plate- this will prevent the mixture inside from drying out. Let it cook for about 3-5 mins. Switch off the flame and serve!
