Ingredients

  • 1 cupsama rice
  • 1/4 cupsabudana (sago)
  • 1/2 cupyoghurt
  • 1/2 cupwater
  • 1/2 teaspoonbaking powder or 1 teaspoon eno
  • to tasteSalt
  • 1 teaspoonginger paste
  • 1 teaspoonchilli paste
  • Tadka
  • 2 tablespoonoil
  • 1 teaspoonCumin seeds (Shahi Jeera)
  • 2 teaspooncurry leaves
  • 1 teaspoonsugar
  • 1 teaspoonlemon juice
  • 1/4 cupwater

Steps

    Grind the sama rice in a grinder.
    Grind the sabudana separately.
    Add both the flour in a bowl. Add salt, green chilli paste, ginger paste and yoghurt and mix well. Add water and mix. The batter should look of a thick consistency. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes. Blitz it in a blender to get a smooth paste.

    In a steamer add about two glasses of water and bring it to boil.
    Grease a plate with oil to steam the dhokla.

    Transfer the batter in a bowl and add eno and 1 teaspoon of water and mix it well. Transfer the batter in the plate and place it in the steamer. Cover and steam for 20 minutes.

    After 20 minutes remove from the steamer and let it cool. Once cool remove from the plate and make desired shape pieces. Leave it aside and prepare for tadka.

  5. 5

    Add 2 tablespoon oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, sesame seeds and curry leaves. Once it starts spluttering add water, 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1 teaspoon sugar. Turn off the gas and pour the tadka on top of the dhokla.

Hi all, my name is Rekha. I am Indian by birth, born in Uganda, East Africa, I now live in Wilby, Northamptonshire/England.I retired at the age of 60 due to severe arthritis. I am married, a mother and grandmother.I learnt to cook from my parents at a very young age of seven. I started to cook simple dishes for the family and gradually learnt how to cook. My mum use to cook at our shop where we sold Indian sweets and savouries. I have learnt a lot from my mum. I started cooking fusion dishes and learning from others. My strong point is making sweet dishes and innovating new dishes. I can improvise and be creative in leftover dishes.I love being on Cookpad because I can share and learn new recipes. I have also made a lot of friends.
