Chili Con Carne!
An easy summer recipe that will impress your friends!
Steps
- 1
Heat a little olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, then add the bell pepper, garlic, and finely chopped onion.
- 2
Once the beef is browned, add each of the chili mix spices one at a time, stirring well after each addition. (If you want it less spicy, use less or no cayenne pepper.) Don’t skip the spices—this is the secret to the recipe!
- 3
Add the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, bouillon cube, sugar, and water (it’s best to use hot water).
- 4
Simmer on low heat with the lid half on for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or for a quicker version, simmer uncovered for 40 minutes. (I prefer the first method because the sauce thickens better.)
- 5
Rinse the beans well and add them 20 minutes before the end of cooking. Taste and adjust salt and pepper as needed.
- 6
Serve with rice, corn chips, warm tortillas, or French fries. You can also top with avocado, shredded cheese (like cheddar), yogurt, sour cream, and chopped cilantro. Enjoy!
