Ingredients

4 servings
  • 1/2 cupkolam/basmati rice
  • 1/2 cupmoong dal
  • 4 cupwater
  • 1 tbspghee
  • 1small piece cinnamon
  • 2cloves
  • 1/2 tspcumin seeds
  • Pinchasafoetida
  • to tasteSalt
  • 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  • 1 tspred chilli powder
  • 1 tspcoriander powder

Steps

15 minutes
  1. 1

    Mix the rice and dal and wash it 2 times. Add 4 cups water to it and soak for half an hour.

    In a cooker, heat ghee, add cinnamon, cloves, cumin, asafoetida, turmeric powder, chilli powder and mix it. Now add soaked rice-dal. Lastly add salt and coriander powder. Stir and mix well.

    Cover the lid of cooker and let it cook till 4 whistles.

    Let the steam release. Open the lid and stir the khichdi. Serve hot with kadhi, pickle and papad.
