Cornstarch Custard Dessert

My grandmother and mother-in-law used to make this with caramelized sugar. We also enjoyed it warm in winter when my kids were little, adding chocolate and meringue. Today, this is the basic version adapted for my diet. My family enjoyed it with dulce de leche.

My grandmother and mother-in-law used to make this with caramelized sugar. We also enjoyed it warm in winter when my kids were little, adding chocolate and meringue. Today, this is the basic version adapted for my diet. My family enjoyed it with dulce de leche.

In a bowl, combine the cornstarch and sugar, then add the egg and mix well. If the mixture is too dry, add a splash of milk until everything is evenly blended.

Bring the milk to a boil in a saucepan and add the cinnamon stick.

Once the milk is boiling, pour in the mixture from step 1, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.

When it comes back to a boil, it's ready.

Pour into a serving dish or individual bowls. Serve warm or chilled, on its own or with dulce de leche, waffles, meringue, or chopped strawberries.

Note: If you want a firmer texture, add a little more cornstarch.
