Marmalade is a common item in breakfast in most households all over the world.Slather a spoonful of sparkling marmalade over a toasted bread during breakfast or on biscuits,muffins,cakes and a bite into it will leave a tangy flavour in your mouth.Adding gelatin makes a perfectly set marmalade. Marmalade normally includes the juice of a citrus fruit alongwith its peel which are boiled with sugar and gives a bitter sweet taste to this aromatic condiment.The most popular marmalade is made with oranges.Any variety of orange can be used for this purpose.Here it is made with Kinnow Orange.The taste of real fruit juice alongwith the bittersweet bite into the peel, that goes to make a marvelous homemade orange marmalade.

Ingredients

  • 4oranges
  • 1/4 th cup orange peel
  • 1 cupsugar
  • 1 pinchsalt
  • 2lemons
  • 1/4 th tsp orange red food colour
  • 1 tspgelatin
  • 1/4 th tsp sodium benzoate

    Remove all seeds and fibres from oranges and churn the pulp in a grinder.Strain out the liquid and pulp completely and discard the fibres.Measure the liquid and set aside.Remove the white pith from the peel by a spoon and cut into thin strips.

    Heat 1/2 cup water in a thick bottomed pan alongwith 1 cup sugar.Add the thin strips of peel and boil.Add the strained orange pulp and continue boiling. Add 1 tsp diluted gelatin and 1/4 th tsp sodium benzoate.Boil till semi thick consistency. Add a pinch of orange red food colour.Stir and remove from flame.

    Add 2 tbsp lemon juice, stir and cool. Bottle in distilled glass jar.Refrigerate and enjoy spoonfuls of sparkling homemade orange marmalade over toasted bread in breakfast or over biscuits,muffins or in cakes.
